The Pyrenées-Orientales

In the heart of the Catalan country, the Pyrénées Orientales is an area rich in beautiful countryside reaching from the mountains to the sea. Tourism has been one of the pillars of its economy since the 60’s, and an incentive for building numerous hotel complexes. Having targeted strictly seasonal mass tourism, the Pyrénées-Orientales has now had to take the necessary steps to remain an attractive proposition. A revision of what is on offer, with a range of activities which can be enjoyed throughout the year, has become a priority for professionals. Result, this destination is once again in demand for a clientele with a variety of needs, as well as for business tourism.

The Catalan country, between mountain and sea

The development of an international airport, along with the TGV France-Spain building project, has created a work dynamic in Perpignan and throughout the region. The city’s Congress hall has a modern infrastructure with two auditoriums, and the possibility of organising conferences of between 100 and 1100 people. For events on a larger scale, it can lean on the Exhibition Park which has a hall of 8 000 m2. This site is not the only one in the department, however. A second hall with an auditorium of 500 places can be found at Tautavel, in an unusual position, the European Prehistoric centre, surrounded by vineyards. This site offers the possibility to discover the rich diversity of the area in a friendly atmosphere.

Over and above what is on offer globally, are a number of locations of good dimensions: le Cela, a complex of 16 halls of different sizes situated in the heart of Malibu village at Canet en Roussillon; the Mas de l’Ille in Port-Barcarès, an old farmhouse totally renovated, where each room is furnished with up to date equipment in comfortable surroundings and is suitable for business activities. Another one to note is the Espace La Devèze at Pollestres. This is an ultra-modern setting which offers a reunion hall for 100 with a reception area for 120 people. This address is worth remembering, and will astound anyone used to more traditional settings built in old stone.

Accommodation-wise, luxury locations are relatively recent and have succeeded in obtaining bookings for seminars. It is here, therefore, in this 3 star category that this kind of demand is most common. The list of renovated hotels continues to grow with La Lagune built beside a residential hotel at Saint-Cyprien, and Cela Alyéna at Canet-Plage.
